BIOCOMPATIBLE SURGICAL COATING

What Is BIO TDC® Surgical Plating?

BIO TDC Surgical Plating is a biocompatible, thin dense chrome coating engineered for medical devices, surgical instruments, and precision healthcare components. Applied through a controlled electroplating process, the coating deposits a thin, uniform chromium layer that conforms to complex geometries. Because deposits are measured in tenths of a thousandth of an inch, BIO TDC helps preserve critical dimensional tolerances and sharp cutting edges, making it well-suited for precision medical assemblies.
The performance of BIO TDC is driven by its engineered micronodular surface structure. This nodular topography reduces the real area of contact between mating surfaces, helping to lower friction, resist galling, and improve wear resistance during repeated instrument use. The coating also provides corrosion protection against moisture, cleaning chemicals, and repeated sterilization cycles, helping instruments maintain their surface integrity and functional performance over time.

Surgical Coatings Built for Repeated Sterilization

BIO TDC® Surgical Plating helps protect reusable surgical instruments from corrosion, micro-pitting, oxidation, and wear caused by repeated cleaning and sterilization.

Its thin, uniform, micronodular surface supports cleanability while preserving sharp edges, critical geometries, and close tolerances. BIO TDC is suited for instruments exposed to:

  • Steam autoclave sterilization
  • STERIS SYSTEM 1 processing
  • STERRAD sterilization systems
  • Chemical sterilants and automated washing

By reducing surface degradation across repeated sterilization cycles, BIO TDC can help extend instrument service life and maintain reliable performance.

Advantages Thin Dense Chrome is a pure metallic zero valence chromium coating that prevents metal failures and improves machine performance. Nickel coatings are renowned for their corrosion and wear resistance. Hard chrome plating is selected for applications that require surface durability, dimensional restoration, and reliable performance under load and motion. Xylan is built for extreme environments where corrosion resistance, friction and wear reduction, and buildup prevention are paramount. Molybdenum Disulfide is known for its exceptional lubrication, high load-bearing capacity, and temperature resistance.
