Yes and no. Most chrome coatings are derived from Cr6, which is inherently toxic. However, by strictly following OSHA requirements, we ensure that no harmful fumes reach our workers, customers, or anyone else during the coating process. Additionally, the end product of Armoloy’s chrome coating, zero-valent chromium metal, is neither water-soluble nor reactive in air. Furthermore, this zero-valent chromium cannot be converted into the much more hazardous hexavalent chromium under natural environmental conditions, making it essentially harmless. So, while chrome coatings can be toxic, Armoloy’s chrome coatings are not.
